GEORGETOWN — As the holidays approach and the state of SNAP benefits has yet to be resolved, local food banks and nonprofits are coming together to be sure families stay fed in the Georgetown area.

"Even if they (SNAP) have 50 percent of benefits restored, the money will run out in a month if the government shutdown continues," said Annette Perreault with the Baskervill Food Pantry at Holy Cross Faith Memorial Episcopal Church in Pawleys Island. "This will not be a quick fix."

Baskervill Food Pantry served an additional 76 families last month.

"We are keenly aware of the need and how vulnerable our families are here and throughout Georgetown County," Perreault said. "We wanted to make sure we could put together a quick response to help people right away."
