Twenty years before that ill-fated adventure garnered worldwide attention, historian and award-winning author Adam Goodheart visited the same island, then returned after the missionary’s death to write his book “ The Last Island: Discovery, Defiance and the Most Elusive Tribe on Earth .” He’ll share fascinating stories of his own and others who’ve been drawn through the centuries to study how these last hunter-gatherers on Earth can live in such near-total isolation and how the modern age is drawing ever closer to their shores.
