PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - More than 1,000 flights were canceled Saturday across the country on the second day of the Federal Aviation Administration’s mandate to reduce air traffic due to the government shutdown.

While the Portland International Airport was operating fairly smoothly amid the slowdown Saturday evening , travelers remained on edge, hoping their flight wouldn’t be cancelled at PDX or across the country.

“This is kind of a wild time to be in the air,” said flyer Nord Eriksson. “The board says my flight is going, it’s not canceled, but if it was, I would have just said okay, how do I get home?”

Eriksson flew in from California and said he has several flights to take over the coming days and is preparing himself for any problems trying to get back home.
