UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Indiana football quarterback Fernando Mendoza put the finishing touches on his Heisman Trophy submission tape in the final moments of 27-24 win over Penn State at Beaver Stadium.
The memorable moments he had earlier this season — the game-winning touchdown passes he threw to Elijah Sarratt in road victories over Iowa and Oregon — all paled in comparison to 10-play, 80-yard drive he orchestrated on Saturday.
Mendoza brought the No. 2 Hoosiers (10-0, 7-0 Big Ten) back from the brink of a disastrous would-be loss to PSU that would have imperiled their chances of reaching the Big Ten title game and damaged an impeccable College Football Playoff resume.
