Sydney radio legend and talkback king John Laws has passed away, aged 90, one year after he retired.
Over his seven-decade career Laws cemented his position as a radio pioneer and was widely known by his nickname, ‘the Golden Tonsils’ due to his distinctive voice.
He enjoyed a remarkable career, beginning in 1953 at station 3BO in Bendigo.
He also had long and successful stints at several Sydney radio stations including 2UE, 2GB, 2UW and finally 2SM where his show was syndicated across a national news network of over 60 stations – making him a household name, especially in rural area.
He went on to become one of the nation’s highest paid and most influential media personalities and was renowned for influencing the course of state and federal politics.
