The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested three individuals in Ahmedabad on November 9, 2025, for allegedly plotting terrorist attacks across the country. The suspects, who had been under surveillance for nearly a year, were apprehended while attempting to supply weapons. The arrested individuals are Dr. Ahmed Mohiuddin Syed, Mohd Suhel, and Azad Suleman Saifi.
According to the ATS, the arrests took place near the Adalaj Toll Plaza, where authorities recovered two Glock pistols, one Beretta pistol, 30 live cartridges, and four litres of castor oil from the suspects. The agency stated, "They were planning to carry out terrorist attacks in various parts of the country."
The investigation revealed that Dr. Syed, a physician who obtained his medical degree from China, was the leader of the group. He was responsible for collecting funds and planning the attacks. The trio had reportedly conducted reconnaissance in various locations and had traveled to Kashmir as part of their preparations.
Earlier this year, the Gujarat ATS had arrested five suspected members of Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), including a woman from Bengaluru who was allegedly running an online terror module. The agency has been actively monitoring individuals linked to terrorist organizations, including AQIS, which is affiliated with Al-Qaeda.
In a related incident, the ATS also arrested three alleged ISIS terrorists from Gandhinagar and Banaskantha on the same day. These suspects were found with three pistols, 30 cartridges, and lethal chemicals, including the highly toxic substance Ricin. Investigators are exploring the possibility that they were planning a chemical attack. The suspects were reportedly in contact with foreign operatives and had been communicating with an individual linked to the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP).
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to uncover the full extent of the suspects' network and any potential foreign connections. The court has approved police remand for Dr. Syed until November 17, while the other two suspects will be presented in court soon. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
