A top cop involved in the hunt for the stolen Stone of Destiny after it was nicked from Westminster in 1950 ended up getting a "hidden" piece of the iconic relic years later, research has revealed. ‌

Detective Inspector William Kerr was among those tasked with finding the ancient Stone of Scone following the audacious raid on Westminster Abbey by Scottish nationalist students . ‌

DI Kerr worked to uncover the conspiracy and identify those involved as police across the UK tried to find the historic artefact. The stone was later handed back at Arbroath Abbey in April 1951. ‌
