Two men have been charged with the murder of Sydney tradesman John Versace who was gunned down in his driveway after being mistaken for a gangland member.

Mr Versace was ambushed and shot multiple times at the home where he lived with his parents and two sisters about 10.30pm on May 19 this year.

Officers found the 23-year-old unresponsive outside his family home, but he could not be revived and died at the scene.

Taskforce Falcon Commander Jason Box said there was nothing to suggest Mr Versace was anything but a hard working young man who was living at home with his family to set himself up for the rest of his life.
