MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) - It's not every day you see a horse on the beach. But throughout the week, dozens of them dipped their hooves in the ocean in support of the American Heart Association.
For 44 years, the American Heart Association (AHA) has hosted the beach ride, raising awareness for heart disease.
"We are working to provide research, education and advocacy around heart disease and stroke," said AHA Charleston and Myrtle Beach Executive Director Katie Schumacher. "Heart disease is the number one killer of Americans. And we've got to keep working to find answers of why."
Riders of all ages from all across the country participated in the ride, raising nearly half a million dollars every year. Schumacher said the event also serves as a reunion.
