FORT EDWARD — The loss of millions of acres of habitat and breeding grounds has made grassland birds some of the fastest-disappearing species in North America. With just a few more signatures, New York is set to lose more than 300 acres of what is already a scarce resource.
Pending a permit issuance, Canada-based solar company Boralex is preparing to construct more than 500 acres of panels on top of Audubon-designated Important Bird Area in the Washington County Grasslands. Washington County is one of eight grassland preservation sites in the state.
