Oregon’s estate tax is the worst in America. Even Kiplinger Personal Finance magazine has stated that Oregon is “is the worst place in the U.S. to die if you’re concerned about estate taxes.” Is that really where we want to be?
Washington recently increased its estate tax threshold to $3 million , and will adjust it for inflation annually. In Oregon, that threshold is only $1 million, a number that hasn’t changed in about 15 years . How many Oregonians will move across the river to avoid the estate tax, further reducing revenue from our yearly income and property taxes?
Three of my good friends have recently moved out of state primarily for this reason. Please contact your state representatives to update this very antiquated statute.
