GUWAHATI

The Assam government on Sunday (November 9, 2025) resumed its eviction drive in western Assam’s Goalpara district, affecting about 580 families.

District Commissioner Prodip Timung said there was no resistance to the exercise to clear 476 acres of encroached land in Dahikata Reserve Forest. The eviction drive will continue on Monday.

“All the 580 families who occupied the forest were issued notices more than 15 days ago to vacate the area. Most of these settlers left after getting the notices,” he said.

Mr. Timung said the local authorities engaged adequate security personnel and used dozens of excavators to demolish the illegal structures in the encroached area, according to the directives of the Gauhati High Court.
