PROVIDENCE – Prout proved most difficult to beat when the stakes were highest.
Ten rounds of penalty kicks in the semifinals. Two goals down with 16 minutes to play in regulation in the title match. Another shootout with a championship on the line after extra time wasn’t enough to settle the issue.
The Crusaders kept their cool and earned the right to celebrate on a clear fall Saturday evening at Rhode Island College. Lauren Gill made one last save to deliver a second straight Division II crown, as Prout completed its rally past Westerly, 2-2 (5-4) on Nov. 8.
