A man has been charged after he barricaded himself inside a residence for seven hours Saturday evening, said Chatham-Kent police.

Officers were called to a residential building on Grand Avenue West in Chatham in response to a man who was making threats to officers after barricading himself inside his residence, police said.

Police issued a public advisory about an active investigation around 9 p.m. on Grand Avenue West between Keil Drive and Collegiate Drive.

Members of the Emergency Response Team attended the scene and after approximately seven hours of negotiations, officers entered the residence and arrested a 40-year-old Chatham man, police said.

The man was taken into custody and charged with uttering threats.

Police said no one was injured during the incident.
