LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Metro Police are investigating after a child dies from an apparent shooting in southeastern Jefferson County.
Metro Police says the incident happened in the 6900 block of Bardstown Road around 10:30 p.m. Saturday.
Officers at the scene found an 8-year-old child with what they say is “an apparent self-inflicted” gunshot wound.
The child was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Our hearts go out to the family and loved ones affected by this unimaginable loss,” the department said in a statement.
LMPD said their Chaplain Services were at the scene providing support.
The department said they are trying to determine if the shooting was accidental or intentional, or if any charges will be filed.
They plan to release more information as it becomes available.
