Arizona’s water systems are working on both renegotiating the state’s rights to water from the Colorado River and building more redundancy in the systems so Valley cities are less reliant on Colorado River water.
Darrin Francom, a general manager for the Central Arizona Project, stressed most municipalities or water utilities have a portfolio that includes water from the CAP system, the Salt River Project system, groundwater and sometimes reclaimed wastewater that currently is being banked in underground aquifers
“There’s a portfolio of water. And the challenges that CAP have doesn’t always have a direct relationship to their municipality, their utility having those same challenges,” said Francom, who oversees operations, maintenance and engineering for CAP.
