BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Waves Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Brownsville and Renzo Garcia Academy in McAllen held a women's self-defense class for all women!

The class was held on Saturday at the Waves Jiu-Jitsu Academy, located at 3220 Pablo Kisel Blvd, Ste 105, where women were able to learn different techniques of self-defense.

The academy was a collaboration with Renzo Garcia Academy from McAllen and was instructed by Coach Karrie Sharpless.

"A lot of people have the misconception that you have to protect yourself from an attacker that is jumping out of the bushes, but a lot of the time these situations happen with someone that you know, [for example] a friend," said Sharpless.
