During hostile events such as active shooting incidents in our children’s schools, seconds do matter.
As schools have rightfully hardened their perimeters and buildings to keep bad guys out, it also increases the challenges faced by law enforcement when they need quick and safe access into a school.
We recently introduced bills S4440/ A5720 that, if passed, would require every school district to install at least one exterior key box at each school building — by June 30, 2027.
The key box would need to meet specific industry standards and be installed at an appropriate location to ensure emergency responders, specifically law enforcement, can access the building. The box must contain keys and other access control devices necessary for a
