STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Hold it! Hold it! Hold everything!
When No. 4 St. Peter’s beat No. 5 St. John the Baptist in Saturday’s CHSFL AA-1 quarterfinals, it appeared the Eagles would face top-seeded and defending champion St. Joseph by-the-Sea this weekend in the semifinals. Even the CHSFL website had penciled in the two teams to meet each other.
However, a CHSFL rule stating that Xavier and Fordham Prep who meet in one of the longest running high school games -- the annual Turkey Bowl -- can’t meet in the playoffs. So when No. 2 Xavier beat No. 7 Kellenberg and No. 6 Fordham Prep stunned No. 3 Christ the King Sunday, the league enforced its Turkey Bowl rule.
