EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) — The Evansville Civic Theatre is mourning the loss of its original artistic director, Dick Engbers, who passed away recently.

Engbers started his journey with the theatre in 1965, making his debut as Yellow Feather in "Little Mary Sunshine." Over the next decade, he played a pivotal role in transforming the Columbia Theatre into what is now known as the "Glittering Gem of Fulton."

In 1977, Engbers became the theatre's first full-time professional artistic director, a position he held until 2004. He was known for his unmatched professionalism and ability to draw out stellar performances from his actors.
