This certainly isn't the first time Tony Romo has confused his broadcasting coworkers and football fans watching at home with comments he's made on air.
Since Romo hung up his cleats, the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback has been part of CBS broadcasts as a partner to Jim Nantz. While originally delighting football fans with his smart in-game analysis, Romo's popularity has since taken a nosedive due to his weird 'Romo-isms' that have harmed more than helped broadcasts.
The 2025 NFL season has been pretty light on weird Romo moments so far, outside of his unnatural groan unleashed upon viewers during Week 9's Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills matchup. However, on Sunday, Romo made a pretty awkward gaffe with some poor phrasing that he tried to turn into smart football analysis.
While discussing the New England Patriots and their sound fundamentals during their game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Romo called the team "DTF" in a wholly bizarre moment. Romo then specified his acronym, meaning "details, toughness, and they finish."
Nantz and Romo laughed the moment off after the fact but that is ... not what the acronym usually means! Clearly Romo didn't mean it in that way, but that was definitely a poor choice of words.
