WACO, Texas (KWTX) - CROP Hunger Walks have been held annually for over 55 years in more than 2,000 cities, and today, Waco held its own.
Walkers participate to raise money for those who face hunger internationally and locally. This year, they raised over $5,500.
The funds will benefit both the Church World Service, a global organization, and Caritas Waco, which is one of the largest food pantries in Mclennan County.
Caritas’s executive director Ann Owen said this walk is timely as they are seeing more and more local families in need of food than usual. Just last month, Caritas of Waco served 3,000 families.
The community supporting food pantries is so incredibly, incredibly urgent right now because there are so many people that are hurting and needing it," Owen said.
