NEW YORK (PIX11) — As thousands of flights were canceled nationwide on Sunday amid the Federal Aviation Administration's mandated reductions, New York City area airports felt the change more than most, according to FlightAware.
The tri-state area felt the impact of flight reductions across the U.S. as cancellations eclipsed the 2,000 mark.
Since the mandated reductions came down from the FAA due to staffing shortages in air traffic control towers, Newark, LaGuardia and John F. Kennedy airports have seen ground delays, ground stops and cancellations pile up daily.
