A Chicago man was charged with numerous crimes after stealing an ambulance outside a hospital and leading law enforcement on a pursuit that ended in a collision with a police vehicle, authorities said.
Lamont Hill, 59, was taken into custody when the chase ended with a crash on Friday evening near Central and Cicero avenues. The pursuit began that afternoon when a patient being escorted by security from Loretto Hospital jumped into a Cicero Fire Department ambulance, which had transported a separate patient to the facility, officials said.
A paramedic who was standing outside the ambulance when it was stolen called 911, authorities said. A second paramedic was inside at the time and managed to jump out two blocks away, a town of Cicero spokesperson stated.
