WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Kelly Leipold, the wife of KU’s head football coach, Lance Leipold, shared on Sunday that she was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.

This hits home for their family, as Lance lost his mother to breast cancer in 1998.

Kelly got this diagnosis following a routine mammogram, which she credits to saving her life. She says she’s sharing her story to raise awareness for breast cancer and to encourage people to get screened early, as early detection can save lives.

However, she says that many women don’t have access to mammograms. The Leipolds are offering to match $50,000 in donations to the Masonic Cancer Alliance to help make screening accessible by offering mobile mammograms across Kansas and the greater Kansas City area.

Anyone interested in donating can do so
