COWETA COUNTY, Ga. — A 7-week-old infant is in the hospital after sustaining serious injuries early on Friday morning, according to the Coweta County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said that they were dispatched to Piedmont Newnan Hospital after the infant was seriously injured. The child was then taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite for further treatment.

It's unclear how the child was injured at this time, but deputies said that investigators from the Criminal Investigation Unit responded and are now working to determine what happened to the baby.
