A woman has died after an "unprovoked" stabbing in Birmingham on Friday night. The 34-year-old was taken to hospital with a serious injury to her neck after being stabbed on Smallbrook Queensway just before 9pm. She has since passed away in hospital .

Djeison Rafael, 21, has been charged in relation to the incident and has been remanded to appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court this morning, Birmingham Police said. It added: "Following the victim’s death, an application will be made to amend the charges to reflect the change in the victim’s condition."

West Midlands Police previously said it believed the attack to be "unprovoked" and that the force was "working to understand why it happened".
