EUCLID, Ohio — Hawken made history last March with its first run to an OHSAA boys basketball state final four.
Coach Anthony Burns made a point to pick a path in the Division IV tournament that took his Hawks to Youngstown Ursuline early in the postseason. The previous year, Ursuline reached Dayton and the final weekend of the season. Burns, then in his first season at Hawken after leading Maple Heights, thought a win at Ursuline could set his team on a similar path.
It did.
Hawken fell one game short of Dayton, but only because the OHSAA held state semifinals at regional sites. The Hawks return their three lead guards from that 20-win team, which lost to Glenville at the Canton Memorial Fieldhouse. They are one of the favorites in Division III with returning seniors Greg Price, Da’Ron
