NORTHFIELD, Ohio -- For Lent each year, Lidia Trempe makes thousands of paczki (a filled dough pastry) at Rudy’s Strudel in Parma. They’re rarely made out of season. This week she broke the rules because actor/musician Bill Murray was in town.

“I have been a huge fan since I was a child,” said Trempe. “‘Meatballs’ being my first introduction to Bill Murray as a 5-year-old. I don’t know why, but the movie was on all of the time.

“Clearly, I didn’t understand any of the nuances, but I very quickly understood the story of the underdog. It’s the story of all of us deep down.”

“He has always embodied that to me. a shoulder for the underdog and he is unapologetically himself,” she said. “We even had a Bill Murray cutout at Rudy’s for a long time before it got broken up from too much love.”
