On a brighter note for Indian cricket, the young wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh has been felicitated in an elaborate function in Kolkata after her stellar show in the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025.
The West Bengal government, in collaboration with the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), organised the event at the iconic Eden Gardens, where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee felicitated the 22-year-old cricketer. Richa, who played a crucial role in India’s maiden Women’s World Cup triumph against South Africa with a 52-run victory at DY Patil Stadium, received the state’s highest civilian award, Banga Bhushan, along with a cash prize of Rs 34 lakh. She was also appointed as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), marking a remarkable achievement at such a young age.
