HOUSTON, Texas (KLTV) - Governor Greg Abbott is launching his re-election campaign for a fourth term as state governor during an event Sunday night in Houston, saying he will focus his future policies on further lowering local-taxing power.
After making the announcement of his re-election campaign, Gov. Abbott listed five policies aimed at lowering taxes, including:
Require a two-thirds majority vote from voters anytime property tax increases.
Allow voters to abolish school property taxes.
Give Texans the ability to rollback property tax rates.
Changing how often property tax appraisals occur, from annually to once every five years.
Lowering the property appraisal cap from 10% to 3% per year.
