NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – Nearly 1,600 flights have been canceled in the United States today as the government shutdown continues, according to FlightAware.
There have been an additional 2,089 delays across the country by 9 a.m., according to FlightAware. It comes after over 2,000 flights were canceled on Sunday.
LaGuardia Airport has one of the highest cancellation rates, with 10% of both arriving and departing flights canceled. Newark Airport is not far behind, with 8% of departures and 7% of arrivals canceled.
The federal Department of Transportation has limited flights across the country’s 40 biggest airports due to issues with air traffic controller staffing.
