As we near Veteran's Day, a Penobscot county school gathered students to honor those who served.

Schenck high school in East Millinocket held an assembly to educate students about the importance of recognizing and valuing veteran's sacrifices.

Numerous local veterans attended the event, which featured the town's high school and elementary students and keynote speaker, former congressman and Assistant Secretary of Veterans' Employment and Training Services (VETS), Mike Michaud. Students displayed their appreciation for veterans through songs, speeches, and hand-crafted gifts.

"They all come up and shook our hands and said thank you. I thought that was really good of them," said retired Navy Veteran Stephen Coom.
