At least eight people died in an explosion near the historic Red Fort in New Delhi, according to city police. The blast occurred in a vehicle in a crowded area, but the cause remains under investigation, said police spokesperson Sanjay Tyagi. In addition to the fatalities, at least 11 individuals sustained injuries, as reported by local television channels. Eyewitness accounts and media visuals depicted flames and smoke rising from multiple vehicles on a congested street close to a metro station in the old part of the city. Delhi's deputy fire chief confirmed that the explosion ignited at least six vehicles and three autorickshaws. Firefighting teams were able to extinguish the flames. A local resident described the incident, stating, "We heard a big sound, our windows shook." Police worked to disperse crowds that gathered at the scene following the explosion. The Red Fort, known as Lal Qila, is a 17th-century Mughal fort that attracts numerous tourists throughout the year. The area surrounding the fort is densely populated, making the incident particularly alarming for local residents and visitors alike.
