Steve Emmanuel Barthelemy, 36, has been denied parole for his involvement in the attempted murder of alleged Montreal Mafia leader Leonardo Rizzuto. The Parole Board of Canada made this decision late last week, rejecting both day and full parole for Barthelemy, who is currently serving a five-year sentence.

During a hearing, Barthelemy claimed he was merely the driver and was unaware of his brother-in-law Kevin Rochebrun's intentions before Rochebrun opened fire on Rizzuto's vehicle. This incident occurred in March 2023 along Highway 440 in Laval. Rizzuto survived the attack but was hit by three bullets and required hospitalization for several days.

In May 2024, Rochebrun pleaded guilty to attempted murder in connection with the shooting. Barthelemy also pleaded guilty to charges related to the firearm used in the attack, acknowledging that he was aware a prohibited firearm was present in the rented Porsche used for the crime. The board's decision reflects concerns about Barthelemy's understanding of the gravity of his actions and the potential risk he poses to the community if released.
