The shutdown of the federal government appears to be coming to an end.

Oregon’s U.S. senators aren’t happy about it.

“My red line has always been lowering health costs for Americans,” Democratic Sen. Ron Wyden wrote on X . “Donald Trump and Republicans don’t want an agreement that meets that bar. I’m a no.”

Jeff Merkley , the junior U.S. senator from Oregon, was even more emphatic. He said he was voting no Sunday evening “with every fiber of my being.”

In his statement, Merkley appeared shocked that a handful of his Democratic Senate colleagues sided with Republicans in a vote late Sunday to move forward legislation that would reopen the government, ending more than a month of Democratic unity aimed at forcing the majority GOP to maintain expanded, COVID-era Affordable Care Act subs
