EUGENE, Ore. – On Sunday night, the Senate voted 60-40 to advance a bill that would end the government shutdown.
But while the shutdown is one step closer to ending, Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley do not agree with the deal that was made, as health care subsidies that 145,500 Oregonians depend on, are still set to expire at the end of the year.
“My view has been from the beginning of this, that I would have a red line, a very clear red line so that Oregonians knew where I stand,” Wyden said. “And my red line was all about holding down these health insurance premiums that are so devastating to Oregonians.”
The eight Democratic Senators who broke ranks are not up for re-election in 2026, and made a deal that Wyden and Merkley are not happy with.
