Hyderabad, Nov 10 (UNI) The city police have sounded a high alert following a major explosion near Red Fort on Monday evening, with random checks being conducted ahead of the Jubilee Hills bypoll on Tuesday.

The checks were being conducted at public places including bus stands, the airport, railway stations, lodges and shopping malls, said the police.

Vechicle checking has also been intensified at entry and exit points of the city and other sensitive areas in the old city.

Bomb disposal squads were also pressed into service to carry out checks in public places.

The Police commissioner asked citizens to call the emergency number 100 to report suspicious people or activities.
