A Dorchester man was arrested after he allegedly carjacked an Uber driver in Boston on Thursday, police said.

At about 6:30 p.m., officers went to the intersection of Massachusetts and Columbus avenues and found a “highly distressed” Uber driver, police said in a statement.

The driver said she had picked up a passenger in Cambridge and was in the South End when “she felt a cord or wire tighten around her neck, obstructing her breathing,” police said.

A witness told officers they saw the driver struggling with a person in the back seat before she escaped from the car and screamed for help, police said. The passenger moved into the driver’s seat and sped away, police said.
