With Niagara getting a heaping serving of wet snow Sunday, followed by a swift drop in temperatures, conditions were icy on the roads, leading to dozens of collision calls.

Niagara Regional Police said as of about 10 a.m. Monday, they had responded to more than three dozen motor vehicle collisions.

Media officer Const. Rich Hingley said the figure also includes calls referred to the collision reporter centre.

It’s a similar story across Hamilton and the GTA, where even more snow fell. In the last 24 hours, Ontario Provincial Police in the GTA responded to 220 collisions, including 120 involving vehicles in ditch or stuck, Highway Safety Division media officer Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said on X.
