COLUMBIA, S.C. — A News19 Weather Impact Alert is in effect across the Midlands as cold air continues to move into South Carolina following Sunday night’s cold front.
While the system brought little rain (only about eight-hundredths of an inch fell in Columbia) forecasters say the bigger story is the plunge in temperatures and strong winds that will linger through Tuesday.
Temperatures Monday were between 20 to 25 degrees colder this morning than they were at the same time on Sunday. At sunrise Monday, Columbia was sitting near 45 degrees, with wind chills making it feel even colder. Highs Monday afternoon were expected to only reach the low 50s, with winds sustained at 10 to 15 mph and gusts up to 30 mph.
