DES MOINES, Iowa —
Strong showings from both Iowa and Iowa State during the first week of the regular season didn't help them rise in the new women's basketball AP Top 25.
Iowa State (No. 14 in the preseason poll) is off to a 3-0 start, including a blowout 99-34 win over Sacred Heart on Sunday. Bill Fennelly's squad has scored 85 or more in all three games and has only allowed 40 points once.
Meanwhile, the Hawkeyes (No. 21 in the preseason poll) broke a program record with 119 points in Sunday's win over Evansville. Iowa is 2-0 and will face an always tough Drake team on Thursday before heading to Cedar Falls to take on Northern Iowa next weekend.
A few ranked teams — No. 7 Duke, No. 8 Tennessee, No. 9 North Carolina State and No. 20 Louisville — took losses in the first week. Louisvi
