Arkansas State Police are investigating a suspected hit-and-run that left a man dead in Dermott on Saturday evening, according to an agency news release.

Dermott police contacted state police investigators after they found a man, later identified as Frederick Woods, 61, dead in the intersection of North Norwood and West Willow streets, according to the release from state police.

Preliminary evidence pointed to a driver striking Woods with their vehicle and then fleeing the scene, the release states. Woods' body was transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory, where medical examiners will determine his manner and cause of death.
