A father is missing after he entered the Trinity River attempting to save two children whose kayak overturned. Tragically, both children lost their lives.

The incident happened Sunday night. San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Camilla boat ramp.

At the ramp, witnesses told deputies that a boy was riding in a kayak with a friend when choppy river waters caused the vessel to overturn.

The boy’s father saw the incident and jumped into the river to save the children. None of the three victims resurfaced.

Monday morning, SJCSO reported that the bodies of both children were recovered. The search for the father was suspended last night but resumed at 7 a.m. Monday morning.
