BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) - Wayne Trottier grew up in Cavalier during the 1960s, a time when the Vietnam War loomed large over young men across America. Trottier was drafted into the U.S. Army. Instead of being sent overseas to fight in the jungle, he was called to serve differently — through faith.

“I promise to uphold, defend and follow the Constitution of the United States and to protect the rights and the freedoms of the people of the United States with my life,” Trottier recited, years later. The words, etched into his memory, marked the beginning of a journey that would shape the rest of his life.

Trottier comes from a long line of military service. “My grandfather served in World War I, my father and my father-in-law served in World War II,” he said.
