BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — They have given the country 250 years of service, dedication, and fight, and are now celebrating a quarter of a millennium of battling for the United States.
Governor Kelly Armstrong has proclaimed Monday, November 10 as United States Marine Corps Appreciation Day, celebrating the 250th birthday of the military branch.
"For 250 years, the United States Marine Corps has stood as a symbol of strength and service," the proclamation says, "faithfully defending our nation, upholding the Constitution, protecting our citizens and guarding freedom both at home and abroad."
The Corps formed in Philadelphia in 1775 to enhance the military's capabilities of both land and sea operations. They have played integral roles in many of the nation's wars, such as the Battle of Iwo J
