WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ga. — Months after Washington County's Solicitor General resigned amid criticism over his handling of DUI cases, a new attorney has taken his place.

On Monday, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp announced in a release that he had named attorney Carl Cansino as the new Washington County Solicitor General.

Cansino, according to the release, is the founder of Cansino Law Firm, LLC, and serves as a municipal court prosecutor in Eatonton, Milledgeville and Sandersville.

He'll be tasked with prosecuting cases in Washington County State Court, which typically are lower level misdemeanor crimes.

Additionally, Cansino previously served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit.
