Five people have been charged with distributing fentanyl in the death of 19-year-old Akira Stein, daughter of Blondie guitarist Chris Stein, Parade reports.
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration announced the arrests on Oct. 30, saying the defendants also supplied the fentanyl that killed two other 19-year-olds, including Leandro De Niro-Rodriguez, the grandson of actor Robert De Niro .
Manhattan U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton said in a statement that the group ran a drug network targeting young people in New York City.
“The defendants ran a fentanyl distribution network that sold thousands of fentanyl pills to teenagers and young adults living in New York City, relying heavily on social media to target young drug users,” Clayton said.
He added the arrests reflect a broader effort
