The chief of the Cheshire Police Department was arrested by State Police on Thursday following an undercover operation that revealed he had allegedly attempted to pay for sex, the Berkshire district attorney’s office said.

Michael Alibozek, 53, of Adams, allegedly solicited sex from a person who was really an undercover detective from the State Police Detective Unit based in Berkshire, officials said in a statement.

According to the statement, Alibozek had been communicating online with the undercover detective, and at 9:45 p.m. Thursday, he was arrested at the Hoosac Valley Middle and High School.

Alibozek was relieved of duty and placed on administrative leave, officials said. His firearm was seized and access to the police station was revoked.
