FISHTOWN (WPVI) -- In one of the hottest culinary corridors of Philly, Mecha Noodle Bar recently opened it's latest location.
The growing brand is now in 6 states and was started in a college dorm by childhood friends Rich Reyes and Tony Pham. Mecha means "mom and pop" in Vietnamese, and pays homage to Chef Tony's Asian-American upbringing - his parents owned a pho shop when he was growing up.
The menu has a variety of ramen, pho, baos, and dumplings, plus beverages like bubble teas, sakes and more.
The co-founders also worked in a charity element to their business model - for every bowl of ramen, fifty cents goes to a local charity. Their decision to pay it forward has resulted in over one million dollars being raised over the 10 locations of Mecha.
